Volunteer of the Year Award

Every year, Skills Canada – Nova Scotia is lucky to work with a team of dedicated, hardworking volunteers. From coaches to competition organizers, board members to tour guides, our volunteers continue to support our programming with their time and expertise.

Awarded annually, the Volunteer of the Year Award acknowledges an individual who went above and beyond his or her call of duty by helping our organization in supporting youth. We are pleased to announce that the winner of this year’s Volunteer of the Year Award is Bonnie Williams; she was presented with the award on December 9 at our annual Skills Excellence Awards.

Bonnie is currently a faculty member for NSCC’s cosmetology program at Burridge campus in Yarmouth where she works hard to help her students be the best they can be. She has been an active volunteer as a Provincial Technical Committee chair and as a Hairstyling coach for the past number of years, and has coached many competitors as they prepare to compete at the national level – she’s even seen some take home medals!

This past year, she worked with Hilary Pelerine, a bronze medalist at the Nova Scotia Skills Competition, as she trained to compete at the Skills Canada National Competition in Quebec City. Bonnie went above and beyond by asking Hilary to move in with her and her family in Yarmouth and train with her at the campus salon for the two weeks leading up to the competition. Bonnie is passionate about competitions and it shows in her dedication and commitment to Skills Canada – Nova Scotia.
