Safety Training

Young workers are one of the most at risk groups for on-the-job injuries; the accident rate for young workers is 40% higher than for older workers. In 2006 alone, more than 4,300 young Nova Scotians were injured on the job.*

A lot of young workers start their first job and don’t receive the proper training or don’t know that they can refuse work they feel is unsafe. To help young workers know more about on-the-job safety, the Nova Scotia Construction Safety Association (NSCSA) offers free online training in Safety Orientation and WHMIS (Workplace Hazardous Material Information System). This training not only helps young workers to be safe on the job, but also looks great on a resume!

To access this free safety training, you must be enrolled at a Nova Scotia high school. Simply provide some information to your teacher and you will be given a login to access the free programs.

For more information on youth safety training, visit NSCSA’s SOMETHING SMART website here.
